How to contribute to the FOLLE

[WIP]

Hello hello helloooo! This is Pingouin. The FOLLE is online and accessible to every faerie aware of its URL. How exciting!! But there's barely any content. It's like a little butt-naked baby. Like my own little newborn that I gave birth to and now I'm like WHO GOT ME PREGNANT??
It's you.
Yes, you, dear faerie.
You got me pregnant with your LOVE and THIRST for KNOWLEDGE.

What I'm getting at is
I had a call with the French Government
You have some catching up to do regarding child support
and i only accept writing contributions

🤍🐧🖤 SO LET'S DUMP LOADS AND LOADS OF KNOWLEDGE UP IN THIS FOLLE 🖤🐧🤍

FOLLE writing guidelines guidelines :

1. Short top, big bottom (just how it is meant to be)

Anytime you are writing about a topic, make sure to put a summary at the top of the page, and ONLY THEN start getting into more details. Think of whoever is going to be looking through the book. If I'm looking for a way to fix the fridge and the page page  [TODO: write examples about why it's important to have summaries]

2. Tags tags tags

Every page has a set of tags at the beginning to give you an idea of its current state. Please use them any time you create a new page. Here is a list of the tags:

[WIP]   This page is a work in progress and still lacking major contributions before being considered achieved. Its content is subject to change.

[HELP: robin on the folle signal group] The person currently working on the book / page needs help with it. The tag includes a way to contact the person asking to offer them help. It can be something like an email address, a phone number, or their name in the FOLLE Signal group chat.

[TODO: action]  Writing is hard. Anytime there's stuff you want to complete but you're out of juice and can't think of anything you can use [TODO] to tell others what you want to do. (ex: Heart circles are terrible because [TODO: write a very compelling argument explaining why heart circles are bad I just can't find any right now])

[SCC] See next point.

3. Sensitive community content

See the dedicated chapter on SCC (Sensitive Community Content)

4. Always do a search before writing something

It's easy to get very passionate about something and start writing a new page right away. Maybe some people went though the exact same thing but days / months / years earlier. There is a search tool, please use it and see if your visions converge! Having the same information 8 times in 4 different books might make things a pain to navigate.

5. English is the main language for the content

For several practical reasons as of right now English is the main language. Faeries are encouraged to use their browser's built in translator to translate to their main language. Once there is a bigger, stabler body of content translations might be considered.

6. No generative AI

Artificial intelligence is is  a complex and rapidly evolving topic. The consensus at the first setup meeting was that for now we don't want content created by generative AI. That includes text and images. It is not a rule set in stone, and if the topic is important to you, you can bring it up on the loomio masterpost (https://www.loomio.com/d/ABZS4odc/folleterre-online-library-of-love-and-education-masterpost-2026) or in the signal group chat (https://signal.group/#CjQKICOjvN_zzASF3iehfEUptr5BcPW9lyddIIPCUBbo0qPFEhCn6xWGnbNAY2XIcugpFRIi)

okay enough about theory let's get practical

You need to login to create/edit content. Right now there is one default account for everyone. The credentials are
Login: default
Password: rj6Q1?V9-b$2r4D;4'y

There is limited space on the server for now, pictures should be okay but any video should be uploaded on a separate drive/website!!

If you are on a computer the options to edit things are on the right under the action dropdown. If you are on your phone they are in the Informations tab at the top.

what should I write about??

Great question! Anything you feel very passionately about and think is hard to carry on from gathering to gathering, hard to remember as a community is a good place to start.

Here is a recipe for a successful and loved FOLLE book:

  • Catchy title!! If I don't get wet reading it I am not opening it.
    • A page that is an introduction explaining why and how this book came to be, as well as the most important things summarized, for faeries that do not have time to go through the book. Keep it short and snappy! (1 page max)
    • Any amount of page covering the several topics your book is about. Again trying to have a short intro with the main takeaways for anyone skimming over the book.
    • A page involving the community, it can be stories, testimonies, anything that ties this content and reminds us that this topic topic
    • A page with external sources and resources, for faeries that wish to dive deeper into the topic

Of course, this is a suggestion, all of the structural stuff can be addressed later, don't feel forced to fit into this specific thing.

And here are some topics that have been brought up by the community:

  • Tips and tricks on how to give the best Folletour
  • Updated good gathering guide
  • Land Information
    • Species - plant and animals
    • Foraging guide
    • Understanding how climate change impacts the land
    • Lumbers report
    • Risks around the land - deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss over the years...
  •   Garden
    • Introduction to the Folleterre Garden
    • Schedule explaining when to plant what
    • Where to source / buy plants
    • Compost info - everything there is to know
  • Local area
    • Local shops, farmers, repairs, etc
    • Our neighbors and how to keep a good relationship with them
    • Nearby hiking trails
    • The Cascade
