Electricity, water, garbage in Folleterre
Water in Folleterre
Water in Folleterre comes from wells dug into the earth. Using an electric pump, it is brought to two 1000L plastic containers located slightly above the house; the water is then conveyed from the containers directly to the house taps. To eliminate bacterias, it goes through an UV filter, located between the containers and the taps. Several taps are available in Folleterre ; one in the kitchen, one in the breakfast barn, one just outside the house, nearby the dish dance area.
- For quick face clean and tooth brushing, faeries use the tap nearby the dish dance area. It is recommended to bring a biodegradable toothpaste with you.
- Water for cooking is taken either from the taps, or from the white plastic containers located in the kitchen and the breakfast barn. When water from the pumps gets capricious, faeries sometimes go to nearby town of Ternuay to fill the containers at the townhall tap.
- For showers and dishes, we use water from the fire pit. The water is kept warm by the fire underneath the barrel, maintained by a volunteer faery, nicknamed The dragon. Faeries refill the barrell with water from the spring nearby. The fire under the barrell is turned on by the dragon in the morning, and refilled several time a day, when needed.
Electricity in Folleterre
During the first days of Folleterre, the house got its juice from the solar panels located on the roof. However, when the pump and UV filter were added to the water system, solar pannels showed their limitation, and it was decided to link the house to the local electricity network.
Garbage in Folleterre
You'll find garbage containers in the kitchen and breakfast barn, and some compost buckets nearby the dish dance area. Faeries in Folleterre follow the french recycling legislation:
- Yellow garbage bags for all plastic and metal containers, papers and cardboard
- Black garbage bags for general waste
- Containers for glass, to be collected and brought to one of the glass recycling bins in town
- Buckets for compost, to be thrown into the compost area
At the end of the gathering, faeries bring the garbage bags to the trash containers down the hill. For big and heavy garbage, faeries will sometimes use a trailer or rent a truck to bring all trash to one of the two recycling center (one down the hill, the other one in the city).
